mk3/map/README 16 February 1994 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ This directory (/mk3/map) contains Mark-III coronal polarization brightness of east & west limb synoptic data as generated by the program "mkamap". The maps are in three formats: contours maps in postscript format (ps and old directory), binary data of calibrated pB data (binary directory). Data in the old and history directories should be used for viewing purposes only. As the various rotations are re-run with the new calibration the corresponding rotation in the 'old' directory will be deleted. Eventually the 'old' directory will be eliminated. Contour maps have historically been generated at 1.36 and 1.74 solar radii. Data in the binary directory contain binary synoptic maps at 1.36 and 1.74 solar radii. The data in these maps are 16-bit integers of pBe+10 B/Bsun. The array size is 360 by 181. In idl the images would be image=intarr(360,181) C short image[181,360] Fortran int*2 image[360,181] The files contain the image followed by a short ascii footer. On a UNIX system, use the command: tail -1 filename or tail -1 1888e1.74 for example, to see the how long the ascii footer is. The postscript maps should be fairly self explanitory. An X is placed where no data was available. Data gaps of 1 day or less have been interpolated across.
