MKIV COMMENT: Tue Dec 17 19:44:57 GMT 2002 Centered O1, steppers OK. **MKIV PROBLEM**: Tue Dec 17 20:37:50 GMT 2002 Akamai problem is possibly a serial communication problem. Because the window appears and disappears consistently there is doubt that the cable is involved as communication would either fail completely or intermittently. There is a question whether the window comes up and goes away if not connection is detected. If that is the case, then cable can be listed as a possible suspect. We do not have a suitable cable to swap in between the KCC and nahenahe. If serial ports are suspect, it doesn't look like card swaps are an option, circuitry may be on the motherboards. KCC serial port is located on the rear of the chassis rather than on one of the plug-in cards. nahenahe serial port is also on the main back plate of the workstation. One option we can try would be moving the serial cable to another port-- currently at port #2 on the KCC and at port A on nahenahe. Methinks this would have to be done in software?? **MKIV PROBLEM**: Tue Dec 17 21:46:36 GMT 2002 Communication problem with KCC solved. Swapped RS232 cable (akamai to nahenahe) from port A to port B. Opened up a cmdtool window and typed in "tip ttyb". Got a "connected" response and then the akamai-> prompt. MK4 status messages then started streaming across to the window. Ended tip session and swapped the cable back to port A as a test. Did a "tip akamai" and got a "link down" message. This verified that there is a problem with nahenahe's serial port A. Swapped cable back to port B and requested that David Elmore change the code on nahenahe so that nahenahe looks for akamai data on port B at login and startup of Run. Modem was connected to port B. Since it was not used regularly, we will be operating with no modem connected to nahenahe and a non-functioning port A "feature" on nahenahe. We will need to think about where to move the modem.
