Isla, Clara and Adam met regarding what to do with updating the Hurrell et al sst/ice dataset that is used for AMIP runs.

To recap: The dataset is a merge of Hadley Centre and OISSTv2 sst/ice products, and in early 2023 NOAA deprecated OISSTv2
(which is on a 1 degree grid) and released OISSTv2.1 (on a 1/4 degree grid).

In summer 2023 I rewrote Dennis' old scripts to use the OISSTv2.1 data, and I created a new dataset.
We were aware of differences between v2 and v2.1, but in the absence of a better alternative
we thought we should go ahead and use v2.1 data so we can extend the dataset to present.

A couple of months ago, Clara and I noticed unrealistic 1979-2023 ice trends in the new dataset,
and a user posted on the forum that there are quite noticeable differences in tropical SSTs as well.
Isla recently made contact with Paul Durack (PCMDI), and he stated that he does not trust OISSTv2.1
and will not use that data to extend his own sst/ice dataset. (Paul is in charge of supplying the official CMIP AMIP sst/ice dataset.)
I think we now have enough reason to officially pull the datasets I formed last summer. 

The "bad" undiddled files are:

And I think y'all went ahead and created diddled versions of the files here:
/glade/campaign/cesm/cesmdata/cseg/inputdata/atm/cam/sst/*_c230628.nc
If you could delete/move those files I think that would be best.

Paul has been waiting for months for the Hadley Centre to get back to him with regards to a new HadISST2.4 dataset.
Paul hoped to use HadISST2 to form a brand new, updatable dataset, and Isla and I will follow his lead.
There just isn't a good option out there right now. 

The latest datasets that I have that should be used go through June 2022. On casper:

I would recommend that these files be run through the diddling routines to add to the repository at
/glade/campaign/cesm/cesmdata/cseg/inputdata/atm/cam/sst/. Users who want sst/ice data through present
are unfortunately going to have to wait until things move forward at PCMDI.
There is no time estimate on when we'll have an updated product.
